How Many Days Do You Need for Umrah? A Trip-Length Planning Guide

Umrah itself — the rites of Ihram, Tawaf, Sa'i and Halq/Taqsir — can be completed in a matter of hours once you're at the Haram. The question of how many days to spend in Saudi Arabia is really about everything around those rites: travel time, rest, additional worship, and how much of Makkah and Madinah you want to see.

At the shorter end, some pilgrims manage a trip of around five to seven days: enough time to perform Umrah, spend a few days in prayer and reflection at both holy mosques, and fit in a short Ziyarah, but with little room for delays or rest days. This works best for pilgrims with travelled before and know what to expect, or who have limited leave from work.

A more common and comfortable range for Sri Lankan pilgrims is ten to fourteen days: a few days settling in and worshipping in Makkah, time in Madinah for prayers at Masjid an-Nabawi and a proper Ziyarah of the historical sites, and enough slack in the schedule to rest, especially in the summer heat.

Trip length also depends on who's travelling.
