Group, Family or Individual Umrah Package: Which Is Right for You?

Group packages are the most common format offered by Sri Lankan agencies: pilgrims travel together on a fixed itinerary and shared schedule, usually with an agency guide or Maulavi coordinating the group throughout. They tend to be the most affordable per person, and the shared structure works well for first-time pilgrims who want a clear schedule and the company of fellow travellers.
Family-oriented packages are built around a family unit rather than a mixed group — think parents travelling with children, or with elderly relatives — with room configurations and pacing adjusted accordingly. These suit families who want more privacy than a large group setup, or who need the flexibility to slow down for a child or an older relative; see our guides on Umrah with children and Umrah for elderly pilgrims for what to look for.
Individual or private packages sit at the other end: private transport, a schedule you set yourself rather than a fixed group itinerary, and the freedom to spend as much or as little time as you like on Ziyarah and personal worship. These come at a higher price point and suit pilgrims who value flexibility over structure, or who are combining Umrah with other personal travel plans.
Worth knowing: most current Sri Lankan agency listings on our platform are organized as group packages, since that's the format most local operators run by default. If you specifically need a family-configured package, use the filters on our Packages page, browse our Family Umrah Packages page, or simply ask an agency directly whether they can arrange a custom family itinerary — many will, even if it isn't their standard listed product.
